Story Of The Movie: Academy Award winning director Alex Gibney takes an unprecedented look in The Last Gladiators at the National Hockey League’s most feared enforcers and explores the career of Chris “Knuckles” Nilan. The role was simple: protect their teammates no matter the cost. For Chris this meant a shattered body, addiction to drugs, and harming the people closest to him. But in the process, he won the love of hockey’s holy city, Montreal, and helped the team win the Stanley Cup. Through interviews with hockey’s toughest guys, the film explores what it means to enforce the unspoken code of the NHL.

Opinion About movies : "There were Swedes to the left of him. Russians to the right. A Czech at the blue line looking for a fight. Brains over brawn-that might work for you. But what's a Canadian farm boy to do? What else can a farm boy from Canada to do. But what's a Canadian farm boy to do? What else can a farm boy from Canada to do?" - Warren Zevon, "Hit Somebody (The Hockey Song)." Alex Gibney's The Last Gladiators opens with a fitting shot; the hands of an unknown player, talking about his career as a hockey enforcer and discussing the several scares, dings, and bruises his hands bear. We learn those are the hands of Montreal Canadians enforcer Chris "Knuckles" Nilan, who played for over ten years, acting as the reliable team goon who was easily provoked and not easily settled. The legend himself, among other popular hockey enforcers, are profiled in this exceptional documentary.

Nilan was born in Boston, Massachusetts, and grew up on the rough, uncompromising side of the suburbs. More often than not, Nilan would solve problems with his fists, running into even bigger problems with his school principal, the police, and, mainly, his parents. Ever since he was young, he wanted to play for the Boston Bruins, but his dream took him to Montreal, where he'd become part of the most legendary hockey team in history. Like most enforcers, however, he was valued not for his particular skill, but for his incorruptible brawn and willingness to fight anyone who either disrespected his illuminating authority or those who intimidated his players. Throughout the remainder of the film, while Gibney works largely to give us a look behind Nilan's life, he dabs into other famous hockey goons, such as Tony Twist, Bob Probert, Todd Ewen, and Marty McSorly, Wayne Gretzky's main force of protection who later ran into legal trouble when he accidentally knocked another player unconscious.

One of the most interesting points about Nilan's highly unconventional life is how, through extensive teamwork and loving commitment, his teammates made him an equally effective player as he was a fighter. Many players would stay after practice, helping Nilan with his goals by doling out probable scenarios and setbacks on the spot to get a reaction out of him. This small point is exactly the reason why he went on to inhabit a life different from most goons.

But with combined fighting talents and heavy support from teammates, Nilan went on to have a successful and memorable 688-game career. He played with the Montreal Canadians for nine seasons, went to the New York Rangers for three, returned home to Boston to play with the Bruins for two seasons, and was fortunate enough to return to Montreal for one final season, retiring where he was born into the game.
Nilan is a wonderful screen presence for ninety-one minutes, often witty, insightful, and easy to identify with. For a guy that was hired mainly to use his fists to ensure the safety of his teammates, one wouldn't necessarily expect so much charisma and human from a man like Nilan. As the film goes on, we see how his persona in this documentary didn't always prevail on the ice. Nilan was not the kind of player to go silent if he didn't agree with authority. He would only respect it if he felt it deserved to be respected. Otherwise, he would explicitly go against you and he really didn't give a damn how you felt about it. Consider the scenes when we see Nilan rant about when the Canadians were taken over by a new head coach, whom he, himself, did not approve of. One day during practice, when he was tossed a puck, he unapologetically swung it back at the coach where it hit him off the head and cost the man eight stitches.
These odd, questionable moments of rage could've perhaps led to the time-bomb sort of finale Nilan had when he finally retired from the game of hockey in 1992. He became addicted to painkillers and heroin, greatly disappointing his already fragile family, who worked so hard to adjust to the shameless hatred they received from Boston Bruin fans who felt Nilan was an ungrateful traitor.
The impact Nilan had on the NHL for going beyond the normal call-of-duty for an enforcer is truly incredible and worthy of recognition, and for that, The Last Gladiators succeeds in profiling a man even current hockey fans may not be so familiar with. Director Gibney concocts the film with the formula the ESPN 30 for 30 documentaries usually follow, where they profile a somewhat unsung or forgotten event/character in sports history and detail his struggle and success through the use of extensive game footage and backstory. The Last Gladiators works efficiently in humanizing a person you wouldn't think would even need humanizing.

Story This Movie : Construction company owner John Matthews learns that his estranged son, Jason, has been arrested for drug trafficking. Facing an unjust prison sentence for a first time offender courtesy of mandatory minimum sentence laws, Jason has nothing to offer for leniency in good conscience. Desperately, John convinces the DEA and the opportunistic DA Joanne Keeghan to let him go undercover to help make arrests big enough to free his son in return. With the unwitting help of an ex-con employee, John enters the narcotics underworld where every move could be his last in an operation that will demand all his resources, wits and courage to survive.

Opinion Of This Movie : This movie marks the departure of Dwayne Johnson from action actor to dramatic actor and the transformation works. Johnson demonstrates a surprising aptitude for dramatic acting as his character struggles with a number of distressing issues. The problem with the movie is the story. It's premise is implausible. The main character's son is busted on drug charges and he is in fact guilty, which makes him a far less sympathetic character. Nevertheless, that doesn't stop his father, played by Johnson, from coming to his son's assistance, albeit as unbelievable as it, and the entire movie hinges on the audience having to believe that the son is a victim, which he is not. If a movie needs a victim, then the victim should in fact be a victim. Another interesting character is the drug dealer played by Benjamin Bratt who plays the role effectively. Susan Sarandon and Barry Pepper also provide excellent performances as an ambitious DA and an undercover vice police officer respectively. Despite the flaws in the story, this is still a good movie and one that is worth watching.

Story This Movie : Iconoclastic, take-no-prisoners cop John McClane, for the first time, finds himself on foreign soil after traveling to Moscow to help his wayward son Jack - unaware that Jack is really a highly-trained CIA operative out to stop a nuclear weapons heist. With the Russian underworld in pursuit, and battling a countdown to war, the two McClanes discover that their opposing methods make them unstoppable heroes.

Opinion About Movies :  Now, I'm a fan of the first three movies. I love them really a lot, especially the original but I also love the 3rd installment, mainly due to the chemistry between Jackson and Willis. That was phenomenal. I could not connect with much in the 4th movie as it was a lot of CGI and made John McClane a superhero who seemed invincible. I wasn't setting my standards high for this one at all as I knew what it could turn out to be, but BOY...This movie really is awful

This movie is based around John McClane who travels to Russia to deal with his son's issues. There, a whole lot of crap begins to happen. This movie attempts to have such a complex plot for a Die Hard whereas the other four were so simple that even the dumbest person could tell what was happening. Its like this director, the guy who made the god awful Max Payne thought that the plot had to be complex for an action film like Die Hard As a regular movie, this movie may NOT be that bad but as a Die Hard movie, it is god awful. I couldn't bear to watch the pain that I went through in this film, why? Because, almost nothing in this movie resembled anything about Die Hard. There was no tone, no tension and as a result, it felt nothing like Die Hard. NOTHING!
The characters really are all awful, with the exception of John McClane who still has a bit of relatability to him. Bruce Willis does a fantastic job in the movie but every other member of the cast really didn't appeal to me. The villain was weak, John's son was uninteresting and a lame addition to the franchise, as if he were there to sell action figures. The story was no fun and the action was all messy This movie does absolutely nothing to resemble the Die Hard films and as such, one of the most anticipated movies of 2013 has fallen down a drain with overuse of CGI, lame characters and plot, uninteresting villain with no real intention and another excuse to make more money out of it.
A Good day to Die Hard is a movie that makes you think that this day is a good day for you to die hard. Do not watch it, pointless action movie that does not resemble Die Hard.

Story Of The Movie:  Los Angeles, 1949. Ruthless, Brooklyn-born mob king Mickey Cohen (Sean Penn) runs the show in this town, reaping the ill-gotten gains from the drugs, the guns, the prostitutes and—if he has his way—every wire bet placed west of Chicago. And he does it all with the protection of not only his own paid goons, but also the police and the politicians who are under his control. It’s enough to intimidate even the bravest, street-hardened cop…except, perhaps, for the small, secret crew of LAPD outsiders led by Sgt. John O'Mara (Josh Brolin) and Jerry Wooters (Ryan Gosling), who come together to try to tear Cohen’s world apart.

Opinion About Movie :   I saw a screening of Gangster Squad last night and to say the least, I was unimpressed. I had decent expectations for the film with a stout cast the likes of Sean Penn, Josh Brolin and Ryan Gosling along with a director whose last two films I enjoyed (Zombieland and 30 Mins or Less). So what went wrong? Like the summary says it was incredibly cliché of every gangster movie out there and tried so hard to be like LA Confidential and the Untouchables. While this movie would have done much better in the 90's I don't feel it fits in this generation of film.
You have Sean Penn as Mickey Cohen who decides he wants to be the king of Los Angeles and he will take out whoever is in his way. Nick Nolte plays the police chief who is tired of the way LA is going and recruits hard nosed, do-as-I-please Sgt. John O'Mara (Josh Brolin) to create a crack team to take Cohen down. From there you have the obligatory round-up-the team where he gets the bi-focal smart guy, the past-his-prime outlaw and side kick, the token black guy, and the cop who doesn't want to join at first but is thrust into the fray.
You then have a typical hunt down the bad guy, have a couple of shoot outs where an incredible amount of bullets fly and no one gets touched, and a very flat romance where you wonder why these two are together for no other reason than they are really good looking. There were also moments in the climax of the movie where the audience burst out in laughter and I feel that it was incredibly unwarranted.
The only real redeeming quality was Sean Penn who gave an intense, powerful performance as Mickey Cohen. All in all I was disappointed in Gangster Squad and feel like the entire movie brought nothing new to the table of the gangster genre.

Story of The Movie : Emily Taylor, despite being reunited with her husband from prison, becomes severely depressed with emotional episodes and suicide attempts. Her psychiatrist, Jonathan Banks, after conferring with her previous doctor, eventually prescribes an experimental new medication called Ablixa. The plot thickens when the side effects of the drug lead to Emily killing her husband in a "sleepwalking" state. With Emily plea-bargained into mental hospital confinement and Dr. Banks' practice crumbling around him, the case seems closed. However, Dr. Banks cannot accept full responsibility and investigates to clear his name. What follows is a dark quest that threatens to tear what's left of his life apart even as he discovers the diabolical truth of this tragedy.

Opinion About Movie : Steven Soderbergh has decided to end his career what can only be described as a pharmaceutical, psychosexual thriller that deals with several morally ambiguous characters all revolving around one horrible incident. Out of fear of giving away the intelligent, twist-filled plot written by Scot Z. Burns, that's really all I can say, although I can tell you that Soderbergh directs the film with extreme confidence, and it shows. He was able to convey a sort of quiet chaos with his frequent close-ups, and, by shifting in-and-out of focus throughout the screen, he was able to draw attention to the many small, yet important details.
The real strength of this film, though, is not necessarily the story itself, but how it is presented. To be honest, the story is almost too smart to the point of absurdity, but it never comes off as such. By releasing only one small piece of information at a time, we are kept waiting through interviews, court hearings, false trails, and many psychiatrist visits until, finally, everything comes together into one neat conclusion. The entire film is very subdued, but if you pay attention, you will be rewarded in the end.

Of course, the story would not have turned out so well without the multiple impressive performances that carry it all the way through. Rooney Mara is once again stunning as Emily Taylor, a woman who starts taking prescription antidepressants to cope with her husband's release from prison. Without giving much away, Emily is far more complex than she first appears, and Mara plays this perfectly by retaining a dark mysteriousness about her. She truly steals every scene she's in, and displays such a range of emotions that, at times, it's difficult to tell what her character is truly thinking. This is unfortunate for Channing Tatum, who does a fine job as her loving and sympathetic husband trying to make everything right after being released for insider trading, but who doesn't have close to enough material to compete with Mara.

Story of this Movie :  Val is released from prison after serving twenty-eight years for refusing to give up one of his close criminal associates. His best friend Doc is there to pick him up, and the two soon re-team with another old pal, Hirsch. Their bond is as strong as ever, and the three reflect on freedom lost and gained, loyalties ebbed and flowed, and days of glory gone by. And despite their age, their capacity for mayhem is still very much alive and well - bullets fly as they make a hilariously valiant effort to compensate for the decades of crime, drugs and sex they've missed. But one of the friends is keeping a dangerous secret- he's been put in an impossible quandary by a former mob boss, and his time to find an acceptable alternative is running out. As the sun rises on the guys' legendary reunion, their position becomes more and more desperate and they finally confront their past once and for all.

Opinion about this Movie :  I'm not one who often writes reviews and I had absolutely no idea what to expect from this Movie. What can I say - Pacino was Spectacular and Walken is - well, he's Walken. As brilliant as he was in The Deer Hunter. The Duo make a stunning and very humorous Duo and certain parts of the Movie will definitely have you in stitches. I'm not going to say anything about the plot but I highly recommend this Movie to any potential Viewers. Filled with Witty Humour and sharp Sarcasm, the Movie tends to get one thinking about different aspects of Life. A Fun Movie - and though a bit slow, I was fixed on the Screen. Pacino and Walken make some of the Newer Actors look like true Amateurs - Watch it....

Story of The Movie :  Follows a New Orleans hitman (Stallone) and a Washington D.C. cop (Kang) who form an alliance to bring down the killers of their respective partners.
An unlikely alliance between a cop and a hitman takes place after each watches his partner die. The new partners seek revenge and discover they have a shared enemy and much in common despite being on opposite sides of the law.

Opinion About This Movie : It's been ten years since Walter Hill last directed a feature movie (and that was 2002's UNDISPUTED). His new movie, BULLET TO THE HEAD, seems like a perfect fit for his long-awaited comeback. It has two combined genres associated with Hill's trademarks -- gritty action tone and buddy element. However, BULLET TO THE HEAD is hardly as great as 48 HRS (Hill's breakthrough movie back in 1982) but rather a forgettable effort ruined by uninspired direction and equally uninspired script by Alessandro Camon.
Based on Matz's graphic novel Du plomb dans la tete, the movie begins with two New Orleans veteran hit men James Bonomo (Sylvester Stallone) and his longtime partner Louis (Jon Seda) have successfully completed their latest assignment of killing a corrupted cop named Hank Greely (Holt McCallany). But soon after, Louis gets brutally stabbed at a crowded bayou bar Crawfish Hollow by a hulking bad guy named Keegan (Jason Momoa). Jimmy vows for revenge and starts to take things personal by hunting down whoever responsible for Louis' death.
Meanwhile, a Korean NYPD cop Taylor Kwon (Sung Kang) arrives in town to find out who killed Hank, his former partner. Kwon eventually knows that Hank's death is related to Jimmy. However, it turns out that the case has plenty of conspiracy involved, which later forces Kwon and Jimmy teaming up together in an effort to catch their respective partners' killers.
It's a shame that Alessandro Camon's adapted screenplay is awfully formulaic. Make no mistake, there's nothing wrong for coming up an action genre that relies strictly by the formula as long as the filmmakers knows how to pump up sufficient amount of good entertainment. Unfortunately, everything in BULLET TO THE HEAD is too shopworn to qualify this as a worthwhile action thriller. Speaking of action, most of them are nothing more than a series of unimaginative shootouts and fisticuffs. Even Walter Hill seems to go auto-pilot as the director. He's totally a pale shadow of himself here.
As a buddy genre, both Stallone and Kang has none of the chemistry of Nick Nolte and Eddie Murphy in 48 HRS, or even Arnold Schwarzenegger and James Belushi in RED HEAT. While Stallone deserves a few praises for playing a straight-faced tough guy with wisecracking attitude, the same cannot be said with Sung Kang's uncharismatic performance. Jason Momoa is physically daunting as the fearless Keegan and he proves to be a great villain who doesn't require to emote or act a lot. His best scene is no doubt the one involves the climactic axe fight against Stallone.

Story Of the Movie: Sheriff Owens is a man who has resigned himself to a life of fighting what little crime takes place in sleepy border town Sommerton Junction after leaving his LAPD post following a bungled operation that left him wracked with failure and defeat after his partner was crippled. After a spectacular escape from an FBI prisoner convoy, the most notorious, wanted drug kingpin in the hemisphere is hurtling toward the border at 200 mph in a specially outfitted car with a hostage and a fierce army of gang members. He is headed, it turns out, straight for Summerton Junction, where the whole of U.S. law enforcement will have their last opportunity to make a stand and intercept him before he slips across the border forever. At first reluctant to become involved, and then counted out because of the perceived ineptitude of his small town force, Owens ultimately accepts responsibility for the face off.

Public Opinion : His is pure guilty-pleasure cinema. You know you can't defend seeing lots of nameless guys in black suits and machine guns mowing down people and that there's only a bullet here or there that might get one of our good guys (and I mean, y'know, Luis Guzman, who is always fun to watch in that very familiar character-actor way by the way, same for Harry Dean Stanton's walk-on), and it hearkens back to that time in the 1980's and 90's when Arnold Schwarzenegger dominated cineplexes with this kind of action trash. But over time, as super glossy and hyper-kinetic and chaotically-shot cinema floods theaters, this almost comes as something of a refreshment. How do I simply say "I got thrilled by the action, laughed at the craziness in the set-pieces, and loved seeing Arnold tear it up and have one-line retorts: "How do you feel?" asks a towns-person - "OLD!")

Story Of the Movie : While investigating the wife of New York City's mayor, an ex-cop finds himself in the middle of a larger scandal.
Billy Taggart (Mark Wahlberg) has a promising career as a New York City cop until the night he is involved in a controversial shooting. Stripped of his badge, but kept out of jail by New York's popular Mayor (Russell Crowe), he re-makes himself as a private investigator. Times are tough, and when the mayor offers Billy $50,000 to investigate the First Lady's (Catherine Zeta Jones) extra-marital activities, it seems like a straight forward payday. Unfortunately, it quickly becomes apparent that the Mayor is not at all what he seems, and for Billy to achieve redemption he will have to risk everything -- possibly even his freedom.

Opinion About Movie :  There's a tense purpose afflicting the whole cast and story; "Broken City" is matched by a tight cinematography, gritty locations and a storytelling that never ends up being gripping. The result is not that satisfying, with Russel Crowe being surprisingly not as convincing as the other lead actor Walberg (Billy's girlfriend, Natalie, is more beautiful than good at acting). There's a sense of bitterness throughout the movie, maybe due to the abuse of violence, but the rest lacks. Hughes shows a combination of run of the mill plot twists and many unrealized ideas, so that the story doesn't fulfill its potential in the end.
