Story Of the Movie :    In San Francisco, after a year's relationship, Tom proposes to Violet; she accepts. She's an experimental psychologist, hoping for a post-doc at Cal. He's a sous chef who runs the kitchen when the chef is away. When Cal falls through and she gets an offer in Ann Arbor, Tom agrees to support the move, turning down a job as chef at a new restaurant. The move requires postponing the wedding. At Michigan, Violet is in her element, but Tom is underemployed and frustrated; he's Stoic for a while, but when two years in Michigan become four, Tom's frustrations boil over, and on the eve of yet another wedding date, they must make a choice. Is there any other alternative?
Viewer's  Opinion :     My wife wanted to watch this so since I like Jason Segel I said what the hell! About 3 quarters of the way through my wife and I looked at each other and she said does this seem like it's taking forever? I'm not sure on the run-time but it actually felt like I was watching it for 5 years. Now with that out of the way it wasn't as bad as it could of been and there were a few decent laughs. It just seemed to take a really long time for it to get to a what amounted to a typical rom-com happy ending. Other than that I don't have much to say about it so I'm conclude by saying it wasn't horrible, I've definitely seen worse, but I would never watch it again.
With this cast you can't go entirely wrong. A lot of reviews make the inevitable 'this movie is five years long, amiright?' joke, and they're not totally off base. Thing is, the movie is never not funny, it's just that the entire first half of the film charts two people on a journey of totally breaking up. Period. And if that was what it was about, it'd be a genuine heart breaker, about how life doesn't always play out like it does... wait for it... in movies like this. The whole slog of their pre-ordainded reconciliation is basically insulting.
