Story of the Movie : Wreck-It Ralph (voice of Reilly) longs to be as beloved as his game's perfect Good Guy, Fix-It Felix (voice of McBrayer). Problem is, nobody loves a Bad Guy. But they do love heroes... so when a modern, first-person shooter game arrives featuring tough-as-nails Sergeant Calhoun (voice of Lynch), Ralph sees it as his ticket to heroism and happiness. He sneaks into the game with a simple plan -- win a medal -- but soon wrecks everything, and accidentally unleashes a deadly enemy that threatens every game in the arcade. Ralph's only hope? Vanellope von Schweetz (voice of Silverman), a young troublemaking "glitch" from a candy-coated cart racing game who might just be the one to teach Ralph what it means to be a Good Guy. But will he realize he is good enough to become a hero before it's "Game Over" for the entire arcade?
Viewer's Opinion : Damn it, damn it, damn it I wanted to like this more than I did! Being a lifelong video game fan I popped for the video game references at the beginning. It was cool to see characters from games I grew up with on the big screen. So you could say it was of to a good start. Once it gets going though I struggled to stay interested. A big problem I had is the trailers are a bit misleading. We're lead to believe in the trailers that it's a film about a bad guy video game character who wants to be the hero. The problem is that part of the story only serves to set up the actual story--
Sugary-sweet and full of propulsive energy, "Wreck-it Ralph" is a colorful and boisterous story about learning that the person who you are is truly the person worth being. The film's themes are clear and poignant, but, beyond the nostalgia of seeing 80s-based video game characters in action, the experience lacks the heart and quieter moments that would make the film a winner for those who like soulful animated films. Overall, kids will love this, but adults may find it less-than-remarkable after the film's sugar rush burns off.
Wreck-It Ralph is not only one of the best films of 2012, but one of the best films Disney has ever made, including Pixar. Wreck-It Ralph is filled with a fantastic cast, lovable characters, impressive animation & 3D, great dialogue, and so many awesome video game references including everything from Sonic, to Pac Man, to Metal Gear Solid, and so much more. I have found literally zero problems with this film, and it's also nice that the run time was longer than 1hr 30 mins(the standard kid's movie). No matter how young or old you are, do not miss out on this fantastic film filled with tons of feels.
